Entry for MWWC #28: Smile

16      smile

Until about two weeks ago I’d drafted a completely different entry to this month’s Monthly Wine Writers’ Challenge. The topic is “smile”. I’d written some guff about press trips and how amazing it was we get to do them. I’d just arrived back from 3 days in the Douro and was high on life. I can’t believe how long ago that feels now.

#MWWC 27: Bubbles

Investment, MWWC, Uncategorized

For this month’s Monthly Wine Writer’s Challenge we’ve got to write something along the theme of “bubbles”. I was wracking my brain and thinking about what line I could go down, and then it hit me. Something I’ve been looking at for the last few weeks, something that’s been bothering me the more I see it. And hey, it fits the bill. I’m going to have a quick natter about what I think is a Fine Wine Bubble!

All Shiny And New!

Written for the Monthly Wine Writers Challenge #23: “New”

I remember when the wife and I first picked up our dog Alfie. He was 8 weeks old, just this little ball of white fluff with two gigantic ears! When we got him home and let him loose on the flat his favourite thing was to bark at the annoying copycat in the mirror that kept mimicking his movements. I have a sad life, so this was one of the funniest/cutest things I’d seen in a long time.

MWWC 21: Perfect Pairings to the Perfect Pairings

For The Foodies, MWWC, WSET

I’m not skint, but I’m not exactly feeling flush either. A year after leaving gainful employment to join the wine industry and things have gone pretty well. I’m feeling a lot less like an amateur having a go, and a bit more like I know what I’m doing and what I’m talking about. Well, to an extent anyway. But as with any start up business, you don’t exactly get a shed load of money back out initially. So the belt needs tightening here and there.

This Week On Please Bring Me My Wine

Week coming up

It’s funny to talk about last week without mentioning what happened in Paris. But I feel I have to. Until a few days have passed, I’m not sure I could write anything about it without saying something that I might want to retract at some point. So for now, I’ll just say that I hope you all can spare thoughts over the next few days for the victims, their families, and the French nation. In the mean time, we’ve got to get on with our lives, and in my case that’s talking about wine, however insignificant that might sound.

#MWWC 18: Crisis – Det Er Dritt Varmt!!!

France, Italy, MWWC, Reds, Whites

Anyone know any Norwegian? No? Right, well a bit of translation is in order then! I’ve been spending a few days with my in-laws and they’ve taught me a bit more slang. Roughly translated it means “it’s shit warm!” Apparently a lot of people use it as an expression, although I’m not going to test it too far just in case they’re winding me up!

#MWWC14 – We’ve all got our traditions!

France, MWWC, Reds, Whites

For this month’s Wine Writing Challenge the theme is “Tradition”. Given the fact we’ve just been through arguably the busiest time of year when it comes to family-meet-ups, some of the things we all do when we’re together are still fresh in the memory.
