When I mentioned to Anthony that this was going to be my first choice of 2014 he seemed pretty happy. And he should be.
The first time I really drank Albariño was on my stag do about 3 months ago in San Sebastian. For anyone who’s never been over to San Sebastian, then change that immediately, it’s absolutely awesome. It’s a small piece of heaven on earth for foodies and wine-o’s alike, and if you like lounging on the beach or surfing too, then you’ll be like a pig in shit!
So I have to say I kind of cheated without meaning to cheat before writing this. As myself and Ant were talking about what to go for next week, we had a quick natter about what we thought, and he may have let it slip what the average thoughts were on the Carménère week. Put simply, looks like you have to pay up for a really enjoyable bottle.
So I’ve had a quick look at the web to see what’s suggested. It’s basically ranging from a well-grilled rib-eye steak to a cheeseboard. We’re going to get some deep black fruit, a bit herby, and the occasional bit of red pepper if the tasting notes are anything to go off.
Well this is effectively the start of my honeymoon (well it’s tomorrow officially, but sod it!), so I’m going to go a bit over the top and go for both. I’m going to pick up the wine choice from Morrison’s, and the one from Majestic and have a bit of a compare and contrast.
So there you go, Anthony’s kicked us off on our 2014 plans for world wine domination. We’re starting down under with a white wine from Australia. Their take on Riesling.
