So I’ve had a week off writing the blog as I ate far too much and drank…nah actually…I drank exactly the right amount! But as everyone seems to be throwing out pieces on which Champagnes to waste your money on, I thought I’d chip in with a couple of tips on what to have at all your parties.
TIP ONE: DON’T SPEND MORE THAN YOU HAVE TO
If you’re having a big house party with all your mates over, then (and I’m sorry to be blunt about this) what’s the point in flashing the cash on stuff no one will really appreciate. Most people just want bubbles! That’s why Prosecco has become so massive around the world. Top Prosecco is great, but the stuff the average Brit drinks isn’t. But never fear, you can pick up very good Prosecco from most supermarkets these days for under a tenner. The perfect compromise!

TIP TWO: CHAMPAGNE ISN’T THE BE ALL AND END ALL
So many people still use the word Champagne for any sparkling wine they drink. The masters of wine marketing from the North East of France have been at it for years and now every time sparkling wine is asked for then it’s got to be Champagne. Well it doesn’t. You want real quality at that price level? Check out what the Brits are doing! For the same price as entry level Champagne, you’re looking at internationally award winning UK bubbles!

TIP THREE: GO BIG OR GO HOME
Sounds like I’m slagging off Champagne here, doesn’t it? Well I don’t mean to, I’m just saying be more choosy. Don’t pick up the nearest bottle of Lanson Black Label that you see on offer. Trade up a bit, start looking at smaller producers or vintage Champagnes, which usually start for just a few quid more, and get pretty amazing well short of the £100 mark. Sure it’s a lot of money, but £30 on the entry level stuff is worse value, trust me!

Whatever you do and whatever you drink, have a great last week of 2015! Thanks so much for all the support!
