This week’s food match came from actually just glancing at the website when I was looking at all the options for the week. Spirited Wines always add the idea of what to eat with your bottle of wine, and for their Glenguin Estate Old Broke Block Semillon, which is the only one I’ll be tasting this weekend, they reckon chicken pie!
Now I don’t just usually take recommendations without working out before hand why it’d work. So let’s work it out.
With age, the Semillon from the hunter Valley takes on honey, butter, and toast flavours. Well let’s be honest, butter and toast sound like they’d marry up well with the pastry and the sauce, so that’s a winner.
Semillon also has a decent level of acidity too, and I’m expecting a citrus flavoured acidity to the wine too. That acidity will lift what could be an otherwise stodgy meal. Again that’s looking pretty good for chicken pie.
Let’s give it a go, eh?
Cheers
Mike
