NEW WAY TO VISIT GERMANY – I CAN’T PRONOUNCE IT, BUT IT LOOKS AMAZING

Germany, Uncategorized

Ah those beautiful compound words.  Loads of people give the German language quite a bit of grief, but I think it sounds great.  They have this thing where they compound smaller words together to make one massive word that sounds delicious when you nail it.

At the recent Wines of Germany tasting I learnt a new one: “WEINSCHLAFWAGEN”. It’s a “wine, sleep, car”, and it’s a brilliant idea to increase wine tourism down one of the epic German wine rivers.

These are eco friendly, self-contained caravans based at a biodynamic winery in Nahe.  What a story that is?!

Apparently it’s chock full of walking tour ideas, cycle routes, and (of course) easy access to scores of local wineries.

The other thing is that Nahe’s one of those regions of Germany that many don’t visit. They fly into Frankfurt and either head up to the Mosel, get stuck in Rheingau, or ping it down the DeuscheWeinStrasse through Pfalz to the Black Forest.

But Nahe’s a wine geek’s dream German region, with huge variation in soils and micro climates, and some really special Riesling and Pinot Gris.

And now you’ve got somewhere to head back to and sup on what you’ve found that day. I really fancy having a go at this.

Cheers
